My girlfriend was having her hair braided, and since it took hours, I had some time to kill around the salon. I discovered this huge park on the border of St.Lawrence River. Sadly it was getting late when I got there and I didn't have a tripod, but I could still experiment longer exposure water shots with the help of local rocks.

2. Water-dunes

3. Heron

I was trying to get closer to the shore when I was surprised to see this heron about 12 feet from me. I stopped moving, thinking it was too late and it would take off... But he wasn't nervous, or maybe just the kind that loves attention... Anyways, I went shutter crazy for 2 minutes or so before he got away.

4. I see a silhouette of a (fisher)man

Smooth sunset reflection over a small lake nearby. Had I shot it 1-2 seconds before, I would have caught the fish jumping out of the water in the sun reflection. :(

CC Welcome, thank you!

I like them all. The first one almost gives the illusion of being below water level. The last one is beautiful. I love the heron shot. One question for me, being the newbie that I am, would be what your camera settings were for that one.:D

Please know that I'm NOT a professional photographer - nor even a good amature!:D My comments are always just from a consumer's point of view!;)

Thanks all for the great comments. I really had fun shooting these, it was the first time I could really try to capture a water flow - I had a big stream and low yet still enough light condition (I don't have an ND filter).

For the first photo, I was actually very near the water level. Since the camera was precariously propped on a rock (not quite flat, I must add) I had the neck strap around my wrist the whole time. Flip screen is very useful at times like these!

The settings for the heron shots are:
1/13s @ F3.5
ISO 50
Focal length: 33.2mm (the bird was quite close)
2 sec. timer
WB: Cloudy
No flash
Handheld
All this on an S2 IS.
I made some basic post-processing (resize, a bit of saturation, level adjustment and sharpening) afterward.

Some nice work... I've always liked the effect of a slow shutter and moving water... it's just sooo cooool... My favourite of these is the Heron though... Wonderful shot...
