Well, I just read some rumors on dgrin (smugmug's forum) that Nikon is introducing some new cameras, and lenses, tomorrow. If the rumors are true things should get even more interesting. Thread is here (external link).

Hi y'all,

Thom Hogan is saying (external link) that Nikon will announce new DSLRs and lenses on 8/23.

The consensus rumor I've seen on-line is:

D3
- FX format (Full frame) 12Mpixel CMOS made by Nikon
- 9 fps in FF mode, 11 fps in HSC mode
- HSC is done at 1.5 crop factor (meaning DX size)
- ISO 200 - 6400 with LO (iso100 equiv), H1 and H2 (iso 12800/25600).

D300
- DX format 12Mpixel CMOS (most likely same as D2X)
- 6 fps and boost to 8 fps with power grip (no HSC mode)
- ISO 200 - 3200 with LO (iso100 equiv), H1 (iso 6400)

D3 and D300 share the same AF system. 51 AF points. 15 of them are cross sensor.
Supports live view mode. Switch to contrast based AF in live view mode.

Five new lenses.

- AF-S 14-24/2.8 G
- AF-S 24-70/2.8 G
- AF-S VR 400/2.8 G
- AF-S VR 500/4 G
- AF-S VR 600/4 G

Interesting - this coming from the company that can't do ISO 800 without throwing out image detail through noise reduction.

Why do you say this on every thread? Is it the only thing you know how to say? If you don't care that is fine but adding this to every thread is just plain childish.

alright im sorry i upset you.

seriously though....it will be interesting to see Nikon get a new updated version of a full frame.

It will have to wait to be seen if it can give canons FF a test run.

I dont know if its me but I like a lil competition...if not for that things could get stale. Even though Im a Canon shooter Im not beyond at least testing the Nikon FF.

Its not that you upset me I was just curious if you had some stance against posts about new gear that is all.

I guess time will tell if Nikon is truly interested in FF and if they are Canon consumers should get benefit from it as well.

hoesntly...kinda...especially when big things get tossed up about it....arguments ensure and whatnot...that to me is silly...they are just rumors..i remember what happened with the mkIII...but it was my mistake.

In a weird way I hope they do well on this. Raise the bar....:D

Nikon has a FF sensor finally. It only took them almost 5 years. Canon had its 1st FF 1Ds 11.1 MP back in November 2002. Now the 1Ds Mark III is 21.1 MP.

Ah, I see. Being a Nikonian myself and never having surfed a Canon forum I did not know that.

Well it isn't a rumor anymore. ;) They sure did raise the bar, on paper anyway.

Indeed. And competition is GOOD. I'm still waiting on the 5D mark 2 and the impressive features of the D300 are going to pressure Canon to agreesively integrate features, drop the price, and get it out the door quickly. I wish! =)
