I am almost ashamed to say, it isn't a Canon but a Sony Alpha. I don't have a real macro lens yet, only the close focussing on the two lenses that I have with it. I do have the old 500D Canon close-up lens which will have to suffice for now. Here's the first efforts...
This orb spider found in the back garden was a pig to catch because the web was in a windy spot and its total length including legs was around 10mm. It's got a packed lunch ready. :)

Sony A100, 75-300mm plus Canon 500D close up lens. Not perfect but W.I.P. :)
C&C appreciated.

What made you pick the Sony over a Canon?

Anyway the fly shot is a winner!

Thanks guys.
@Eric. It was a tough choice, and I'm still not sure it was the right one, but the main ones were image stabilisation within the camera body, and the availability of decent s/h glass from the old Minolta AF range. The Sony Alpha is a nice camera and the sensor is capable of very good results. First impressions are that the sensor has a fair bit of noise above iso 400, but it still retails good detail and the built in image stabilisation is good for a stop or two that it might lose against the Canons in low light.

Come on Eccles, we all know it isn't the camera...it is the person behind the camera who captures the photo. :) Sony, Canon , the "N" word...(Nikon) ROFL. :) Doesn't matter. You did a great job with the shots. I like all the details in the fly shot. Have fun with the new camera.

true, i think 70/30... cause the camera can determine the picture to a certain extent.

Hi Eccles well done on the new camera as hatch says its the person taking the shots that matters. Good idea about getting s/h Minolta lenses as its the glass that matters anyway
good shots by the way
Pete

Fantastic start with your new camera eccles. #2 is fabulous, the background colour is gorgeous. They are all very good and showing lovely detail. I can see you are going to have tremendous fun with your new equipment - all we need now is the weather!

I like the greenbottle shot. Sony body felt very plasticky to me, not solid, but thats a personal thing.

It didn't take you long to come to grips with the new kit did it? :)

A great start eccles. I think the fly pretending to ride a Harley is my favourite...

Thanks all. I know what you mean RM, but to be honest I thought the Canon 400D/XTi to be pretty much the same, and the higher priced models are just out of my league. The Sony certainly feels solid enough. Where I'm struggling is with holding the camera steady enough to allow the CCR shift stabilisation to work properly. It certainly isn't as forgiving as the old S3.
By the way, the CCD shake anti-dust system DOES work! I found two specks of dust on a test shot taken this morning, turn the camera off and on to invoke the CCD shake, took another shot and they were gone.
I've been getting better resolution out of it today than yesterday. ISO1600 is supposed to be the camera's achilles heel so I took a couple at that and ran one through neat image. I was quite pleased at the result, and reckon it'd do a pretty good 8"x10" print. This is using a Minolta 75-300 with Canon 500D close-up filter, hand held.
