Sharpening settings?

Jus wondering what poeple generaly do to sharpen their images.

i ask because i dont really no how and tend to not sharpen images cuz i end up ruining them

do u use unsharp mask? if so what radius and thresholds are good to use?

I really like using the Nik Sharpener Pro 2.0. It takes all the guesswork out - you tell it how your photo will be printed (inkjet, lab) or displayed, the size of the final image and the viewing distance. It figures out the correct sharpening most of the time. You can modify or erase areas you don't like.

Unsharp mask is popular. I tend to slightly sharpen the image with USM if it needs it... but...I always hand sharpen the subject/point of interest with the sharpening tool. I have mine set to 4% up to 7%. A few passes and I think it really helps. Plus... you control what specfic areas you want sharpened. You could apply other sharpening methods and then mask out what you do not want sharpened. I find the sharpening tool to be the best method for my workflow.

I use the auto sharpen option in Photoshop Elements. I like it because it won't over sharpen an image, and it won't make an out of focus image sharp -so I have to nail the focus and can't get lazy

I use USM and if a 800px picture I slide it to about: Amount 80, Radius 1.0 and Threshold 0
It seems to work for me.

I usually use a high pass sharpening action. There are several good free ones just a Google away.

unsharp mask in photo shop...i go by scott keybys advice.
