Realistic speculation please.... no built in coffee makers or anti-gravity IS in camera please.

3.5 inch LCD, 1 megapixel resolution
Improved AF system (more cross type and faster); no AF bugs please
Larger buffer = more frames in a burst
*AF-On button for autofocus during liveview
*More preset and custom Picture Styles built-in
*In-camera RAW -> JPEG conversion system
*UDMA support like 1Ds III
HDMI port (ahhh, gimmicks gimmicks)
*1.6X crop mode
Dual CF + one SD slots (wishful thinking)

*Can be done via firmware update? Maybe they'll just release a firmware update and launch a 1D Mark IV instead.

Either way... Photokina 2008 aka September 08

Hmm, I can't see Canon doing anything more to the 1D mk3 other than minor adjustments such as improved AF. It is specifically aimed at sports and journalis shooters.

The product was the result of serious consultation with professionals and fits the current capabilities of affordable technology available to Canon and the requirements of the industry. Anything more will be rolled over into the Mk4 or another segment entirely such as the 1D l mk1 (l for landscape for example).

Increasing the LCD would not be worth thier R&D efforts on a sports camera for professionals. But hey, what do I know.

Well with the D3, I'd love to see them do a 12mp FF sensor that can be cropped to a 8mp 1,3 (or 16/10) and run at 5fps full frame and 10fps cropped... Or 10fps at both...

The D3 is going to have people thinking at canon though. A FF sports body with a crop mode.... very interesting.

There's probably not much use in even talking about it for about a year, because the next evolution will probably be in 18 months - unless you become the purchasing agent for one of the big boys like Sports Illustrated and can throw some weight around.

Have Fun,

Rick

A better screen would be the best thing, not bigger, just high res. Nikon's new cameras have higher res, now Canon needs it.
