The 1Ds Mk.II - 1D Mk.II should switch cards when card is full. This is totally firmware.

Does Canon really think I'm going to switch to a new body to get this feature? I guess so.

Where are the resourceful Russians when you need them?

As much as this non-existing feature on my mk2 is annoying for me, I still doubt I would be willing to try some Russian firmware on my cameras. And yes, Canon does think you will buy mk2n because of this "huge improvement". That's one of reasons why I'm so happy for Nikon today. Canon will finally have to stop treating us like we are all idiots.

The IIN doesn't do it either. :(

I think the IIn does if you set it in a CF,.
But then I don't have the IIn so I may be mistaken.
The MkIII does though, again it needs to be selected as one of many options in a CF

I'm not 100% sure now, but I think mk2n has this option.

If Canon enabled this I would be ecstatic. It will NEVER happen.

How about a little arm that reaches in to your bag? Sounds like firmware would be the way to do this. ;)

I have to agree with you on this one, Jason. What ever happened to maximizing customer satisfaction? Seems that would be a good way to get a more loyal following.

No, the IIN allows for one or the other, mirroring for backup, or one raw and the other jpg... but not overflow after card full. Unless I completely missed that page in my manual :)

I also agree that hacked firmware would be awesome.

How about a mirror lock up that's not buried. I don't use that direct print button anyway. There are lots of options for other things that would be easily changed with firmware...

It's just a very expensive brick if you mess it up though. It would be nice if all that sat on a removable card so if you did brick it you just pulled that out and popped in another.

Always fun to dream.

IIN does not allow this function. When either card fills, it stops taking pictures. Checked the manual to confirm.
