I was hoping by using the tubes I'd get closer and see more detail but then this may be as good as it gets with a dead bug. James

I only started getting good eye detail in flies when I first started shooting around 1.5:1. I routinely have 33mm of ext tubes on my sigma 105. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lordv/

I am very jealous because you have both the tubes and the 100mm. I have the tubes but can't afford the 100mm at this time so I rented it and what a mistake that was because now I am going through withdrawals without it. That is a great set up and take some time to get use to it, get the shutter speed up and work on bracing yourself and your camera better. Nan
