Local shop has a Canon refurbished 1DsMkII for $4999. It seems to be calling my name, though I have no screaming need for it ;)

I admit to being a hardware geek.

I'm sort of hoping someone else buys it so temptation is removed. :)

I am planning on replacing my 20D with a 40D when they are available. I should probably just get the 300 2.8 IS that's on my want list instead of worrying about the 1DsMkII.

135mm F2 -- 16-35mm F2.8L -- 24-70mm F2.8L --70-200mm F2.8L IS
300mm F2.8L IS -- Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX -- Canon 1.4x & 2x II TC

Your plan for a 300 2.8L is probably the way to from the looks of your gear list. At least, that's what I'd do given in the same position. Since you won't be needing that 300 4L or 400 5.6L anymore, I'll PM you my address.

Sure... buy the 1Ds MKII and sell me your 5D :)

Being serious, and even though I would love to buy your 5D... I think you are better off getting the lens. I think you will have more fun with it :)

Leo.

for a few grand more I would wait and get the 1DsMKIII. Now THAT will be a sweet machine!

You already have a FF camera so if I were you I would rather sell the 300 f/4 & 400 f/5.6 and get the 300 f/2.8 with a 1.4xTC. Will be less gear to carry around.

I also voted no. You've got a nice selection of gear already. I would either get a 1DIII, or wait for 1DSIII prices to drop in several years.. :p
Or keep the gear, and get a very nice lens - the 300 2.8 IS

5D apparently has better IQ than 1DSII anyway. Just not the weather sealing
