I took some long exposures tonight of New York City and the Jersey City from the JC waterfront. Click the images for the full sized versions:

What lens and settings did you use?

I have a Powershot S3, so it's an advanced P&S and does not have an interchangeable lens.

The panorama was 4 photos, and the EXIF is:
Mode: Manual
Exposures: 10 sec - 15 sec (increasing L to R)
Aperture: f/3.5
Focal Length: 10.2mm
ISO: 80
No Flash
No PP, other than stitching

The other 2 photos were 8 and 2.5 second exposures, respectively, using the same aperture.

I typically use a higher aperture for night shots, but I took these around 11:30, so it was quite dark outside. I needed to drop the aperture in order to get the exposure time down to 15 seconds or less (the S3 is limited to a maximum of 15sec exposure).

I love #1. You did a fantastic job with the panoramic. Seeing all these images of stuff so close by really makes me feel like I should be doing more on my days off.

I know! I'm moving out of the area tomorrow and had to get my last shots in while I'm still here. It'll be sad to see it go.

New Hampshire! It'll be a fairly long trek. But I'll have an entirely new area to start photographing. It's hard to beat this area though.

NH is gorgeous especially in the fall. I'll be heading up there sometime in October to take some photographs. If you're still on the boards I'll send you a message and maybe we'll meet up.

Good Luck!

Wow, that first pano is really nice. Some of the highlights on the left seem a little blown, but I love the haze or fog over the city. Really nice.

Those are excellent captures! Jersey City is indeed a great place to photograph the NYC skyline, and you picked a fine night to do it. Thanks for sharing! Pano shot is what I like best.

Nice shots of my old home town. I've always like shooting in Frank Sinatra Park. Good job!

Very cool phtos! I love night photography!

I'm also impressed that you did these with the S3 ... when I first saw them, I thought for sure they were done with an SLR and a nice lens :)
