So I was browsing craigslist for SLR bodies, and came across a 1DIIN for $1000!! haha I figured I would email the seller and see what the deal was... heres the reply I received:

Hello Chris,
Thanks for taking in our product. This product is a state of the art camera and was launched this month. The company is located in Mississippi, ripley.

If you are willing to come pick the product up, just give us a time and date so that we can prepare all the necessary documents for your pick up. So we would like you to get back to us with the total amount of units you would like to buy.

Hope to hear from you soon

Sales department

Seems quite shady to me... , if it sounds to good to be true, then it is!!:D

Bring someone with you! LOL Witnesses are very valuable. That's Craigslist Bay Area too, that's where the pro scammers hang! Be careful. I posted my 20D there for sale and I got a barrage of email from some scammer. They were all basically the same type of email but has been randomly changed. The one I love went something like this:

"Dear Seller,

I have noticed your AD on craigslist for LOOK! CANON 20D! I would like to know if LOOK! Canon 20D! is still available. I would love more than to pick it up, but I'm afraid that is not possible. I can however, send you and your agent a Cashier's Check and an account number for a Courier to pick up the LOOK! CANON 20D! immediately after you tell me that you have cashed the cashier's check. Sorry for the trouble, but it really is impossible to meet you in person, you see I'm blind. Please let me know ASAP as I am looking at other sellers with LOOK! CANON 20D!"

LOL

Yup...that mess is foul! LOL...

I was cracking up when I read that. I was by Gordon Birsch near the ballpark when that email went across to my Blackberry and dude, I almost died laughing. I sent a short response:

"Blind? WTF do you need a camera for then??!!"

LOL

That's great, the person is blind but is 1) answering your ad and 2) wants a camera. That is perhaps the stupidest reason ever given for not meeting in person. Good thing most scammers aren't all that bright. There are so many other reasons:

1) The cows have come home and I have to take care of them
2) Pigs are flying and I have to capture them all
3) I am making blue cheese dressing and am on my way to the moon for supplies

I have bought both a 1Ds MkI and 1D MkIIN off craigslist, each for about $1000 below retail... Both times I inspected the equipment, and the people were quite nice. They just don't know how much used gear is worth. :)

I don't think all of craigslist is bad, but there are enough bad apples to warrant some vigilance when dealing with them. Sometimes, craigslist can make eBay look like a seminary! LOL;)

GL is certainly a breeding ground for scum.
However if you are careful there are fantastic deals in there as well.

Speaking of craigslist, I missed an opportunity to purchase a 30D complete with battery grip, extra batteries and a Pelican hard case all for $800. The seller lived in my town and it would've been a killer deal. When I decided to contact the seller the next day the camera was sold. :(

Scored my 70-200 f/2.8 IS off Craig's List... smooth transaction with a great price. The guy knew what he had, he just needed the cash and I was glad to help him out.
