have seen a rumor on DP review that Canon is holding production of the Ds until they add an upgraded view screen, anyone think this is a possibility or are the specs set in stone

Well, they are incredibly stupid, and cheap, if they don't upgrade the screen. Nikon's new screen it triple the resolution and puts the Canon to shame. I for one am not happy about it.

Question- Who really cares about the resolution for the screen?

Well, as true sharpness cannot really be checked on the Canon screen, but it can be on the Nikon, I care. Also, with the size of the screen taken into account, The Nikon is three times sharper than most computer monitors. That's saying something.
And the menus look as if they are printed on photo paper. That's also nice.

I take it that you are meaning this as it will have a higher PPI.

The new 3 inch canon screen is composed of approx 270,000 pixels, give or take 20,000. I don't remember exactly.

the new 3 inch Nikon screen has over 900,000 pixels, or a resolution of 640x480 over three inches.

It is a huge difference.

Oh ok yea I did some rough calculations the 1D S MKIII with 230,000 pixels is roughly 415x553 and the D3 with 900,000 pixels is roughly 821 x 1095.
