I think the successor to the 5d will blow all the Nikon hype away. It will prob be something like 16mp with a 3inch screen.

I'm quite sure Ronald knows I'm kidding.

But I'm not about the lens. What lens lineup would you go with "hypothetically speaking" of course? :)

Well they just announced a new 24-70 f/2.8 along with the cameras and other lenses so he should be set.

It will be the norm though, both my local dealers has pretty much stopped selling Nikon because they can never get any for stock.

I'm really gawking over Nikons attempt because what's it competing with? The D300 is more than the 40D for what? Higher ISO that may work, better screen (which I never cared about, seems more marketing than actual use), better fps with add on but mind you it says up to and not 8.

Plus, it's fully manual which many people can't use that. As for the D3. more than the MkIII and less than a 1DsMkIII, it sits in the middle where unless you have a Nikon already, why buy it over the MkIII? Is the Noink a poor man's 1Ds?

Could you explain that part please? And you forgot the 51 point AF, live view WITH AF. Oh and I just read that the grip is made of magnesium and not plastic.

Maybe it will help drop the 40D price $200 or so..I still wouldnt ever shoot Nikon because I just cant stand the way the camera feels in my hand. Everytime I pickup my buddies D80 I wonder how he holds it. I dont like their layout

Do u think that is possible?

What do you think a our new coach?

Well FWIW, I found out VR is Nikon's IS and DX is EF-S. That's all I know though.

Well ok, I knew THAT stuff.

The D300 has those things too?

Oh, so the grip is made of the same stuff as the 5D's? ;-)a

bah.. i think its silly to swap based on paper specs.

i'm not really into brand loyalty -- i dont see canon nor nikon helping me pay off my mortgage so screw that (in fact theyre doing the opposite hehe) -- i agree with 'cosworth' in that these are all just tools to help us all do our hobby or profession. so cheers to nikon for answering back STRONG (on paper). now lets see some head to head comparisons -- especially in low lighting conditions:)

oh yeah, for myself, i wouldnt switch to nikon just yet. canon always seems to do things just a bit better in the right areas for me...

i agree with everyone who said that its good that canon has competition. although i will say for the photographers who cant afford the high cost of canon, may jump ship to nikon because of the pro series.
but i will say this. who cares about the snobby look on a nikonians face because they have the pro series. you still have a canon, and thats all that matters.
it will be nice to see what canon will do now seeing what kind of competition is out there.
because the nikon forums are talking about us talking about them, and they are laughing at the upgrade to the 40D. basically calling it a joke. one guy had mentioned that they put an xti in a heavier body.
personally im happy with canon, hopefully the price of the 5d heads down. you wont find this girl jumping ship. i was a nikon user before, and wasnt happy with anything that the camera put out.
smooches.
shannon

I can sell every lens I have for a dinner or two less than what I paid in under 24 hours. My glass is so liquid it's silly.

Nothing Nikon does will make me love my 5D or Canon lenses any less. They all work real well for me and I'm happy with them. Not to mention, competition is a good thing.

they are saying this on all the canon forums today :D.

better fps with add on but mind you it says up to and not 8.

They are all "up to". If you read even Canons literature, the Cameras body is only one part of the equation. The speed of the lenses Iris and abilty to stop down and reopen dramatically impacts the speed at which the camera can shoot. That and the speed of the AF on the lens will also impact FPS performance. How much available light will impact how much it stops down and how well the camera body can see to autofocus will impact fps speed. Therefor, no camera manufacture will confirm the FPS speed because there are other factors at play. This is always a max number given perfect conditions. Actual is always somewhere south of that number.

What do you think a our new coach?

no Idea but would help sales if canon dropped the price just a little to make the 40D look even more attractive.

As far as teh new coach dont really care. Steelers win or lose doesnt matter to me. they can be 0-16 or 16-0 and I feel the same. I would much rather watch them if they yanked Toothlessburger and played batch.

Blah! Look at the retail prices for the D300 - the amount in euros is more than dollars - how is that fair!!
