I have to downsize my 1DsMII files to get them on Smugmug. I have made 20x30 prints with a 20D. I believe anything over 8 is great ;)

Even 8 is great, until you have to crop. :( My dilema lately has been trying to shoot sports with a 200mm lens (and the XT AF). I need to buy a longer lens but until then...

You know the funny thing is 2 weeks ago when I went off to the UK to do a shoot, I was perfectly happy with my kit. I get back and check in here and see the news from Nikon and Canon, and all of a sudden while shooting a soccer game last night at Duke I start questioning if my equipment is up to the task. How quickly things change. It's a competitive world out there, and there is a need to stay current to maintain that edge over the other shooters. It looks like it will be an expensive year... dang.

http://forums.dpreview.com …rum=1021&message=24496043 (external link) says that its 920,000 dots, not pixels, so its a 306,000 pixel screen?

BigBlueDodge wrote in post #3778612 (external link)
The D300 has the same 3" LCD as the 40D, but has an amazing 922,000 pixels versus the 230,000 pixels on the Canon. That should be one clear LCD.

922,000 pixel LCD vs. Canon's what... 230k or so? You mean you can actually check critical focus on the LCD now? What?! :D

I want a Canon 5D II !!! * I have: Canon 350D * Canon 430EX * Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM * Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM * Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM * Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM

The D300 will have 51pt AF. Holy crap. Also, it does 6fps normally, and 8fps with battery pack (is this the grip?). The D300 has the same 3" LCD as the 40D, but has an amazing 922,000 pixels versus the 230,000 pixels on the Canon. That should be one clear LCD.

As far as I can tell, the D300 has everthing the 40D does, and even more. Wow, I'm really impressed by the camera. Nikon has really up'd their game. They are making a serious charge at Canon.

920 000 dots - not pixels.

Care to explain the difference here and why it make a huge difference in this context? Are we concluding that in the case of the Nikon number we are saying dots = subpixel? I haven't read the press releases so I am not sure.

EDIT - Just read the release... the nikon has

LCD monitor * • 3.0 " TFT LCD
• 922,000 pixels
• 170° viewing angle
• Brightness adjustment

NOT 922,000 "dots"... so yes, it is that much better.

Experps taken from Rob Galbraith's Website and their coverage of the D3:
http://www.robgalbraith.com …_page.asp?cid=7-8742-9083 (external link)

including a handful we shot ourselves, the camera looks like it will produce low light photos that are both massively cleaner and more usable than the D2Xs and in the same ballpark as Canon's EOS-1D Mark III

Nikon promises a dynamic range bump of 300%

We can say that in limited testing of a prototype body, the D3's ability to hold and repeat focus on static subjects is impressive

Love this forum, even though I shoot with dark side. :D

Howdy,

vkalia wrote in post #3780144 (external link)
Why? They are both mid-end cameras targetted to the serious user. It is a very fair comparison.

Vandit

Not to me... I can afford the 40D. I can't afford the D300. It costs ~1.5 times as much as the 40D! That's pretty significant to me.

I really like the specs of both new Nikons, it'll be interesting to see if the sports pros out there actually want full frame, and it'll be interesting to see if a 12mp FF sensor attracts people, but its all just pissing in the wind for a guy like me that was already stretching to justify a 40D.

Good on Nikon, that D300 sounds like a nice bit of kit that I can recommend to friends who are still shooting Nikon film cams. Hoping that both the 40D and D300 live up to their paper specs, time will tell.

I still have my 8008s and a few nikon lenses too, wouldnt mind trying the D300 out but I'm still waiting on the next 5D before I make any upgrades or additions to my 20D. Still got a whole lot of glass I'd rather have than a new or second body.

Competition is GREAT. Bring it on, and hope Sony gets its ass in gear too. More choices = better prices.

Sam

Nikon = Nino Brown
Canon = Tony Montana

It's a turf war. They'll wipe eachother off the map and Pentax will rise to supremacy. This will occur in the year 2012 according to the Mayan calendar.

Aye. It was shady business in dark alleys, but they've seen the whites of my eyes between the shadows of my hat brim and the collar of my trench coat.

I thought it would be Casio.
