I haven't had much time to get out and take pictures, and after 5 days without hearing a shutter click I was going crazy. So I grabbed a few minutes out shooting out my window...

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Scott, those are a hell of a lot better than what I've shot in the past 5 days.
Total days with no shutter noise : 7
Damn work is interfering with my shooting
Nice window captures.

Wow ,, lovely shots.. All I've found are a few 100 flowers :D , a snake, fox, 2 hawks and a imitation gator ?! After 2 days reformating disk, reloading XP, other software and replacing a blown monitor, maybe I can get around to posting some :D

Nice pic's !!

Thanks folks. The camera was much happier after I took these. When I turned it on the display said:

EOS
PA-A
THANKS
and then I heard a purr... :)

The first bird was kinda funny. I think it's a juvenile, and I'm pretty sure there were 5 of them bouncing around. None would *ever* land on the closer side of the stick. They acted like kids, though. I got a kick out of them.

The feeders have been getting mauled by the birds lately. I've got only 2 feeders and I've seen 8 or 9 birds on them at once. I'm guessing a bit but I think many are juveniles out for a bit of easy eating.

Whowie, these were from a 10D with the 100-400 L IS. They're shot from a window across my deck so the birds are only about 10' away. The "trees" they're on are actually sticks nailed and/or wired to my feeders. (Did I have you fooled?)

Ian, I've been wondering what's been up since you've been rare around here lately. I figured that you've been working. Sorry, mate.

8) :D

Very nice pictures.

I can cope with 'L' envy, I'm starting to get a few lenses myself, but I can't seem to manage with the locations some of you people are in.

They're a mix. I had set Tv mode to keep things at 1/125 or 1/100 - I had the lens at 400mm with IS so that's about 1/100 minimum. As the sun came in and out I switched between ISO 200 and 400, trying to keep the aperture at f/8 or f/11.

Nice shots, Scott. After seeing your pictures, I'm now more motivated to move my feeders a little close to the house so I can get "closer" shots of the birds that visit my feeder, especially the goldfinches that are already small to begin with.

BTW, the first bird is an adult male goldfinch. The juveniles look like the female goldfinches or like the bird in the 2nd picture. I still haven't figured out how to tell the female and the juveniles apart, though.
