Which one is a better lens?

Hi all,

I need your opinion on Canon EF 35-350 L USM.

Currently I'm using Canon EOS 3 and Elan IIe. I know this might not be the appropriate forum to ask, since you guys are using digital cameras. But the lens is still the same. I haven't own any L glass before, and looking for one. Do you think this is a good lens?

My current budget would only get me one L glass. So I can't afford the 28-70 with 70-200 L together. Do you think the 35-350 is a great alternative? I can get 35-350 second hand in 8+ condition for under US$740.

Tokina 28-80 f2.8 ATX-PRO with used 80-200 F2.8 L USM can cost about 800 USD.

which one is better?

I shot mine mostly for design jobs.

Hi Jeff,

I have a friend who owns the 35-350 L USM lens and is very happy with it. She uses the lens on an A2 film camera and the photos I have seen have been very good. The lens appears to be reasonably sharp thru all focal lengths from what I've seen. I presently own the Canon 28-70 L and 70-200 L lenses and I would speculate that the 35-350 L would be very close in quality and a bargain for $740. US.

I can't comment on the quality of the Tokina lenses as I have no experience with them, but the older Canon 80-200 L is an exceptional lens and is pretty well as sharp as the newer 70-200 L.

Yes, I think I will go with the 35-350, as I'm sure that the quality and the range is quite good. Its might not be as good as the 28-70L or 80-200L, but its still L lens, which is better than the other..
