...seems to cause problems. In fact, the .CRW files are unreadable. Anyone else notice this?

I sometimes use my CF to transfer files from one PC to another and then I forget to delete them. I've noticed that if I shoot RAW with those extra files still on the CF, the resulting .CRW files are corrupted. I can't even transfer them to the PC. I never had this experience with JPEG.

Is this a known issue?

Hmm... I wonder what it is then. Perhaps it's my cheapo CF card? Although I can't see why though.

So long as the "other" files are not in the DCM folder.. I don't think the camera will even know they are there.

I had a similar problem to what you describe, in my case I found it to be corruption induced when I removed the CF either from the PC or my Mac while it was still mounted as an active drive and then used it in either the 10D or the other computer...

Resolved my issues by hard reformatting the CF card (on the computer) which completely rebuilds the damaged disk directory (keep in mind that formatting on the camera doesn't actually format the CF - just cleans up the DCIM directory).

Just a thought, David

It seems my problem is specific although there are some close similarities.

In my case, the affected files are only the new CRW ones. I had around 50 or so shots already. I copied a fairly large ZIP file to the root directory of the card. Later, I fired off three shots and all three CRW files were corrupted. I've now delete the ZIP file but I taken new shots yet.

This has actually happened before but I didn't really pay much attention to it. I ended up with around 200MB "missing". I reformatted in the camera and that seemed to fix it.

Anyway, let's see after I do a few more tests...
