just wondering what you guys use to edit and organize your RAW files. right now I'm using LR, but after trying aperture out (again, the first time I hated it) I'm debating switching to it. what's your guys' favorite?

Well, right now I'm really enjoying Phase One's "Capture One LE". I find it fairly easy to use and haven't had any troubles with it as of yet.

Like DPP for initial conversion, but found it couldn't always recover highlights (even though those same highlights were well toned in the in-camera jpeg.)

Since this wasn't addressed in the latest version of DPP I've gone with LR with its Highlight recovery... (even though initial conversion blows,I can use presets to get me to a decent starting point.)

Adobe Camera Raw with Mike Milker's presets.
I like DPP's renderings but it's user interface is tedious, crude, annoying, ugly....I want to ENJOY processing my RAWs. DPP doesn't do it for me.

I use DCRAW (external link). Advantages:

- Free, compact, no instalation required, continuosly updated
- Total control of what you are doing
- Linear development (no gamma correction applied)
- Possibility of no applying any white balance
- Possibility of no colour managment conversion
- Good highlight recovery (better than ACR in many cases: ACR (left) vs DCRAW (right) (external link))
- Real 16-bit images (ACR/PS is 15-bit)
