This shot was taken at Spruce Coulee Resevoir Lake in the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, Canada. It was just after the sunset, durring the twighlight.

In truth, this shot was a very happy accident, as I was just playing around while I was waiting for the cloud cover to go away (which it didn't) so I could see the stars. I used my Canon 350D with SIGMA 17-70mm lens mounted on a tripod with the use of a cable release. The exposure was almost 2 minutes at 70mm and f10 with an ISO of 200.

Please feel free to ask questions, comment, etc. All advice and such is welcome. :)

Oh ya, this picture looks great normally, but looks even better when you look at it on the monitor in a darkened room (I find). And if you wish to see a full size version, please visit my photography website and look under 'Natural Landscapes' (see link below siggy).

That is really really nice! Perhaps my only gripe is that it maybe a little too dark

When it is printed, it doesn't actually look quite as dark (I've printed a copy). The bright backgrounds of the forum don't help either. If you go to my website, I believe it looks better their, as I have all my back grounds set as black.

Geoff you have some stuuning landscape shots on your site, they really are beauiful! I agree it does look alot better on your website. Perhaps on of my favourites you have teken is the one with the dead tree on the ground, in a dustbowl type landscape, with mountains behind it. LOve that!

Thanks for the feedback Willy, I appreciate it. It's always nice to know what other think of my photos, as I plan on stting my site up so that I can sell them for a little pocket money (gear money....hehe).

I checked out your website as well, and I was also quite impressed. I particularly liked alot of you landscape and wildlife shots......what can I say, I'm a sucker for those....hehe.

Oh, and by the way, that dead tree stump is stuck in what is actually a lake bed.....hehe.....the water level was just extremely low. But I was glad it was, as I otherwise wouldn't have got that shot. :)

A little less detail (silhouette) or more detail in the trees would be better.

Try darkening the trees but lightening the rest of the image.

This is probably one of my favourite areas in the Cypress Hills to photogragh at. There is a great hiking trail that runs the whole length of the lake and then loops back (about 3km from start to end). I plan on going back to experiment with this type of shot and others. This time though, I really hope the sky is clear so the stars will show. There is no light polution in this area, which is perfect. The Cypress Hills is one of North America's largest dark sky preserves, and I'm luck to live less than an hour away from it.
