I like a few of the action shots you got, IndyJeff, but overall they look underexposed on my monitor. Some of the player faces are black holes. Any reason why you shot at f/5?

I shot it at f5 because that is what the light meter said the exposure level was.

have to agree they look a bit dark, especially under the helmets on there faces. Open it up, shoot manual, check your levels, use the light meter to refer to more than live by.

I shot a baseball game recently with a guy who was on the phone with his boss talking about the light meter readings, how it was saying this and that and what the results would be from those readings and how he & the other photog need to shoot using them readings. Not having ever used one before I wanted to see his results, which I did later and they were not impressive at all - but he was living off that light meter as a strict guide and not a reference point instead. I sent my gallery to the event coordinator to show him the pics (I was shooting for a magazine and just thought he'd like to see what I got before it went to print as he helped me a TON), in short he basically said mine blew the other guys outta the water and I might be working that event, along with others, next year, and now they are getting ready to license some photos for national advertising and such even though they already paid the other company for the same thing.

btw, love the Jimmie Johnson shot on your SS profile with the flames!

Thanks MJ, that went over the AP wire, got the check on Saturday.

On the football shots too, I should have had a second camera with a shorter lens which would have helped on the real close ones but, I was helping the Lions team shooter as his assistant so I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to what I was shooting really. I looked at the histograms a few times. I was on manuel.

It was just helping a dude out too so I didn't really care a whole bunch. Looking back I should have opened up a bit and shot it a little slower I guess.

Harley, no you don't wish you were there, I swear that game lasted 8 quarters LOL

Did some pp and lightened some of them up a little. After looking at a couple of different galleries from two other shooters there I have come to the conclusion that some of them are going to have those black holes where a face should be. I think the only remedy would be to use a flash and I don't think you will be seeing that on an NFL sideline in a dome anytime in the near future LOL.
