No, I didn`t cut it out. When I was taking shots of it, it was early evening, and the flash illuminated only the mantis but the background remained dark. Thats why the bg is black.

I haven't seen one of these since I went DSLR (2yrs)
I've been watching but don't see em very often.
Your shot is GREAT!!
I hope to do as good IF I'm lucky to find one of these.
