Using a 75-300 zoom with the 2 dioptre Canon close up lens seems a tolerably good combo until I can get a real macro lens. Both these shots were taken using that combo.

Today I went looking brown hairstreak butterflies, but it's a poor year following the summer deluge and I didn't see a single one. As compensation I caught this male brimstone butterfly. Hand held, autofocus.

Then when I got home the little orb spider I posted recently was still around so I fished out the tripod for the first time in years and tried an 8 image focus stack using CombineCZ. I was surprised that it actually worked! Needless to say this one was on a tripod, manual focus.

C&C appreciated.

Super Brimstone. Lovely shot. Not seen any of these.
Spider stack is great.

Lovely backlighting on the brimstone. A great capture.

Nice spider shot too. I can just see the halos around the web as clue to the fact it's been stacked, but a super effort.

Brimstone shot is very nice indeed - especially like the light through the wings. Spider shot does nothing for me - sorry :-( its too harsh looking.

Thanks Bernie & Linda.

its too harsh looking

. Yeah, I think you're right. I was a bit unsure as to whether it needed sharpening at all. I usually add a bit to posted pics to compensate for the reduced image size but probably should have left it off this one altogether. I used the on-camera flash as well, which doesn't help. Still, the stack worked ok. :)

Lovely Butterfly Eccles, not overly liking the spider though, the stacking hasn't improved it, the web doesn't look right.

Lovely butterfly-
Good stack but not keen on the angle- combinezm sharpens the pics during processing so you don't need to sharpen it again.

Thanks again all. Guess I've got to work a bit harder with the stacking. It's fun to play with though and an amazing program for a freebie. :)
