Any idea what the 40D will cost at a place like B&H and anyone have any idea what it will cost in Canada?

Been waiting for this thing for awhile.

Only thing that sucks about this release date is I will have to wait 8-9 months before summer again to use it :(

Think I might just buy it locally if the price will be the same as USA.

If you live in Montreal then you might be better off ordering from Henry's at 1399$. Shipping is free and they only charge the GST (no PST) on out of province orders so you end up saving close to 100$.

But the camera gets bounced around by the idiots at out Canadapost branches. When photo shops get them they are shipped in a better box and with many units so they have to take care of that bigger heavier box. I have seen the morons at Canada post bounce single box retail hardrives off the floor of their trucks. That almost made me throw up.

Also if and when its deffective before 30 days or DOA, you can't go bring it back and get it exchanged THE SAME DAY. For me that alone is worth $100.00. Shipping back and forth and waiting 2 weeks is a waste of my time. It does happen believe me, I went through a lot of deffective parts when buying online, computer parts are the worst.

If everyone would pay taxes, our roads would be in a better shape.

There were 14 suckers in front of me, and Bryan, the sales guy I know from before, told me that they were not sure about delivery date.
Mid September, most likely..

Amen.

Had one lens practically destroyed in transit, and that was after the delivery company (not Canada Post, they don't handle my area, and I won't say who obviously) nearly lost it. "Uhmm, yeah, we have a tracking number, it's not showing up in the system and we have no idea where it is. Do you want to file a claim?"

The heartache, headache and aggravation alone was nearly enough to make me swear off international shipping forever. I still do ship intl', but I have a very low price cap on it. I buy $10 thingies off Ebay like remotes and small filters. If this ever happens again I can write it off. The bitter irony? The small items get delivered with unfailing reliability. It's the big ones you gotta worry about.

I buy local for big purchases. At least the camera shop is there to back me up, let me try it out before I buy, and if the very worst happens, they can exchange it for me immediately. And there's no risk of loss in transit.

You have a point but I don't agree entirely because Henry's does an exceptional job packaging. The volume of protective material around a camera from Henry's exceeds what a retail outlet receives the camera in. Having an exchange the same day may be worth 100$ to you but but I guess that's really a hit & miss. I've brought lenses back to Simon's but wasn't able to get an exchange for for several weeks because of lack of stock. Buying locally puts the odds in your favour but it's no guarantee.

Regarding taxes, everyone does pay their taxes. There is a special 'road improvement tax' in place for several years now. The problem with Montreal roads is not lack of money to fix them, it's powerful construction unions and corrupt contractors that cut corners on the roadbeds that leads to premature deterioration. This is proved in numerous studies. Ontarians and Americans pay far less taxes than we do so it's not magic or higher taxes that makes their infrastructure better. It's better management and better building. Quebec is the highest taxed region in North America (and successfully collects it per capita) so by your logic, we should have the best roads in North America. Fixing society's problems goes beyond collecting taxes, I'm afraid. A recent study put a 10 Billion dollar price tag on Montreal's infrastructure woes. Don't tell me it's because people don't pay enough taxes. I paid an average tax rate of over 40% last year to fund all sorts of ridiculous government spending so if I can avoid paying an extra 100$ in taxes at the retail point of sale, you can bet your camera gear that I'm going to do it. I'll let you pay it and think that you are fixing the potholes outside your place ;)
