What do make of this newest firmware - Could it be the answer to some of the AF issues some are experiencing? Why isn't it posted on the Canon website? Interesting.....

Canon is doing what they usually do, making sure the new firmware doesn't break cameras before they turn it loose.

I don't think so. Here is the information on the Canon Website on this upgrade:

Q:What features are updated with the Firmware Version 1.1.1?

A:It includes the modification for the following issues:

  1. It increases the reliability of RemoteCapture application when the camera is used.
    • The reliability of RemoteCapture, with which you can control the camera from your computer and take single-frame shots, timer shots and interval timer shots and save the images on your computer automatically, is increased.

  2. It increases the reliability of operations when used on Windows XP and Mac OS X with [PTP]* selected in [Communication].
    • It increases the operations with the camera when connected and disconnected with your computer in saving and deleting the images. You may now make a continuous printing of up to 100 images at one time.

Following that dpreview thread (after your post, I believe) I think this (external link) would make it definitive... I just hope it addresses some of the issues.

From what I understand its not out yet. I would not be surprised at all if Canon and RG have some confidentiality agreement to test this out first and, if it works, putting the issue to bed permanenetly. Just speculation on my part.
