Driving down the road I saw these ghostly, white shapes 50 yards off the road, so I stopped, jumped the ditch, & tried to quietly get close to them before it was completly dark. There wasn't enough time to inch forward, one guy decided to exit, & the rest followed. And, some geese flew over to add to the fun!
Then it was 74 shots in 3 "mad" minutes. (& 4 seconds.)

Does anyone have an idea what they are? I'm guessing some variety of Egret?

ISO 400 1/200 sec., f/3.2, Manual focus.

Interesting shots Frank. I like the first two. I would suggest trying to clone out that Antenna in the background in the first two shots as it draws the eye.

Thanks for the comments everyone, & thanks Dave for the ID!

Who was it who said, "I'd rather be lucky, than good?" :D

Good idea. I did that on the prints I made. For the lazy people who like to take images from websites, let them clone "their" copy! :D

They're Great Egrets -- solid white plumage and about the same size as a Great Blue heron, but I believe that the legs are shorter. How did you happen to come across this old thread?

I was looking through the "need an exposure crutch" thread,

It's nice to know that someone read it. ;)
Thanks for the comments. You're right that there's only GBHs in the last two shots. Maybe you couldn't see the egrets very well if you aren't using a color managed browser. See my Sig.
