Just ordered the 135L from BH. I really like my 100/2, but some insanity has convinced me that I must have the 135L. I'm a performing arts shooter about 95% of the time, and I've always wanted a little more reach (even in the small venues I shoot). So I'm selling my 28/1.8 and 100/2 to fund this lens...tough choice, but I think I'll be happy about it in the end. Who knows, I may change my mind about giving up the 28 (though I don't use it as much now that I have the 17-55). Actually...I've always wanted the 24L...

Thanks...just had to share my excitement/butterfies!:D

You picked a good first 'L'. You'll love this lens. Some people say it's "too long" or has "an ackward focal length" but considering how good it is I always find a use.

Keep the 28mm F1.8....it's a great cheap little lens. And yea, the 135L is great...it's color and contrast are fantastic...

Gear is essential, but often has little to do with composition, pictures, and art...Alfred Steiglitz

Yeah, I may keep the 28, even though I don't use it much. There is something romantic about a small 'normal' prime (I use a 30D).

I definitely hope the color and contrast live up to the hype. Any word on the CA wide open on the 135L? I know the 100/2 had horrible CA wide open (much like the 85 1/8_). I was kind of surprised that photozone shows the CA of the 100/2 to be extremely low...lower than the 135L even. It seems like most photos I've seen of these two lenses wide open show the 135 fairing at least somewhat better than the 100. This thread being a good example (with the 85):

I guess I'll get to find out for myself pretty soon anyway.

Be Careful... I got my first L (70-200F4) a week ago, all I can say is that the quality has me floored, I'll be hard pressed in the future to get anything less :p

Oh man...I have a feeling the next few days are going to crawl by. The wife is in vegas for work (yeah right), the 135L is in the mail...that leaves just me and the dog sitting in front of the computer checking the UPS site every 30 minutes...

Congrats! I love my 135L. It is just spectacular in every way imaginable. There's honestly nothing it doesn't do well: amazing sharpness, amazing color, amazing contrast, and all 3 at ANY aperture. Add in the incredible bokeh and lightning fast and accurate AF, and it's as close to perfect as you can get in a lens, IMO. You'll love it.

I shot an event on Saturday in pretty low light, and I primarily rotated between my Tamron 17-50, 50 f/1.4 and 135L (though I shot with my 28 f/1.8 for a little bit). While the shots from my 50 f/1.4 and Tamron were very nice, and I got some shots with the 50mm that were truly excellent, when reviewing the pictures, the ones shot with the 135L stood out immediately. Of course, for it to be a good photograph, you have to be able to compose well with it, but from a purely technical standpoint, it's got a quality only shared by the 85L and probably the 200 f/1.8L.

Ha...well, I'm flying off the handle. Just sent payment on a 35L from the classifieds section. So...I guess that answers the question about the 28. I'm now selling the 50 1.4...which was my first lens (started way back in Oct 06), and my standby lens up to this point. I'll have to adjust my shooting style a little bit with a 100mm gap between my fast primes...but I think I'll make do.;)
