A horse fly? Curious. My impression was that horse flies didn't get nearly that big. This thing put the bees that were around to shame. Thanks guys! Sometimes not taking a photograph can be as problematic as taking one. - Alex Webb

Down here at my house, I've seen 'em about 2" long from head to butt, and about 1/2-3/4" diameter. Photography is cool.
