This is a performer from O ke Kani O na Aina - Sounds of the Islands that I shot at a wedding reception on the Oregon Coast. The petroglyph in the upper corner is the Hawaiian symbol for Warrior.

The is my fist attempt at this type of radical post production work.

C&C always welcomed ...

In the original pic, he was standing in front of a rock wall - really unattractive. So all his fitting in was by design. ;)

Good idea w the burning. The back and top of his head needs some attention. It has a different color than the rest of it all. I'm curious if this overall effect was a result of trying to burn in the highlight halo from the shadow/highlight tool, then taking it to the next step.

Actually, the only burning on the image is the slight outer glow around the entire body. The rest if the marking are multiple layers set to different types - multiply, overlay, soft light. Some are below him, others are on top. The marking over his hair is intentional and designed to set him further back in to the image and not 'ride' on top.

What marking over his hair? you mean the side of his head that is darker? I am referring to the back and top where it looks like a different color from the rest of the entire image. That's the only part that looks unnatural to me.

I see what you are seeing. That is the highlights caused by the gel (or whatever) was in his hair. It is longer on the top and back but really short on the sides - hence, no highlights. At this smaller res, it kinda does look gray-ish.
