Again, you are deluding yourself into believing that an "anonymous" bag somehow makes you not look like a target of opportunity for a thief. As someone who works in public safety I can tell you from over 20 years of experience that there is a lot more to not becoming a victim than the type of bag you are carrying. As for how I would defend my bag. I will just say that I am blessed to live in a state in which I am legally fully prepared and capable to defend my person and property at all times. Molon labe.

Of course, there is more to the equation than just what the bag looks like. But no need to break in open doors, since no one have claimed anything else. It's just that a flashy camera bag is a factor that increases the probability of getting mugged.

Next thing: You are so very wrong if you really think that you are capable to defined your person and property at all times. You are not the first human being in history with eight eyes lika a spider, superhearing and an ability no notice anything that happens around you 24 hours/day ;)

deluding or not, I'm not sure whether will I get robbed if I'm carrying a bag (probably best if you don't even carry one to begin with), but I'm quite sure if you are carrying a bag that looks and bear the name of a camera bag maker or some hot popular camera bag models that even does not really look like 1, you are obviously telling people that you are carrying some related equipment inside. I fly frequently to overseas and I can tell you that a notebook or camera bag that get in its original case/bag get identified way faster and easier.

To addon, you don't need 20 years of experience to let people know that you own more expensive gear in a specialized photo bag as compared to some casual shooters who will carry a boring squarish camera bag that bears the camera brand.

And yes it takes much more than just changing your bag to not become a victim. Nevertheless the point is to make it less obvious within reasonable ways, changing a bag is not too difficult I guess?

lol...I think many of us are guilty of that.:p

It's so horrible, and I always told myself I would never be a bag person/collector. Then again, I shouldn't have bought so many lenses either til I found this forum. LOL!

:D What bags have you bought?

I bought the Lowepro Minitrekker AW, Lowepro CompuDaypack, Lowepro Versapack 200AW, Crumpler 6MDH....I already own the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW but I just needed only 1 extra bag ...I ended up buying 4 because I found that daily usage of the camera/laptop combo wasn't usable with the Flipside 400. I just kept on buying bags the more and more I found their uses..QQ

Minitrekker for just daily shooting.
CompuDaypack for daily shooting and laptop - school and local traveling
Versapack for daily shooting, mini laptop/ipad, and other fun personal items when boarding on the planes and stuff
Crumpler 6MDH just because I think it will be a good combo with my BlackRapid RS-SPORT strap...not sure but I was gonna try the combo but if not the 6MDH is one of the most favored bag here and I'm sure I'll love it too.

I travel a lot and when I don't, I tend to leave the majority of my stuff at home...my biggest issue was that I have the Canon Gadget bag and it's too packed to carry the rest of my lenses. My flipside holds the rest of my gear but I don't want to bring a big bag around with me unless I know I'm appointed for a serious shoot. I wanted something small, and then something small with my laptop, and then something small to bring on airplanes, and it just kept on going and going. LOL

Prior to this you probably thought about that for different purposes one bag would maybe not always be ideal, so before you even thought about not being a "bag person" you were already doomed :p

totally agree. same with me all around.

I am revamping my lineup quite a bit, as you know. But FOR ME, and my wife tells me I'm worse that her.... I require a camera bag for every occasion. if I have the perfect bag, then I'll bring the camera. so the more bags I have, the more places the camera goes, the more pics I take.

bag for 1 body, ANY lens CRUMPLER 4 MDH

bag for 1 body, ZOOM, prime, flash DOMKE F10

bag for all of my gear and ipad DOMKE F3X

bag for some gear while hiking/biking, bladder champer, clik elite

I have a burton photography backpack to hold the crumpler and domke inside it, I removed the camera/main chamber insert. this allows me to carry laptop, ipad, other personal must-haves, all of my L glass, 1 prime, flash in my carry on. once I get to the destination, now I have two camera bags 1/day 1/night and the gear. and i keep the backpack at the hotel.

Quick question:
Any suggestions for a bag/case to tote around a G12? And/or a wrist strap?
Heading to Lalapalooza and aside from holding the camera I'd like to keep this gem safe and handy whenever a picture moment happens. TIA

I have my G10 and Gordy's strap in a leather belt case that just fits it. It says "Canon" embossed into the leather, but I am not sure is really is a Canon product. They sell them all over eBay pretty cheap. It works well and is easy to get in and out (has a velcro flap over the top).

Thanks Howard!
I have a case like that--bought it for my G9 and came with a battery as a package. The G11 fit in it. My LX5 fits in it, as long as I carry the electronic view finder somewhere else.
My case has a magnet closer and says "Canon" on it. So I don't keep it near my wallet and credit cards.
When I was in Henry's Outlet Centre I saw one on top of a bin of low cost cases. Almost bought it. I'm obsessed with bags.

I have a Gordy's strap too. Fits on whatever P&S I have. It gets better and better the more I use it. Softer.
