I am so liking these Billinghams ... like a drug or something ... just can't stop looking at yet another one to replace something I already have.
I guess you don't realize how nice they are until you actually own one. So nice to have NO zippers and NO velcro! Yep, that is probably the second best thing about Billingham bags that I can think of. The first? Build quality! Many people complain about how expensive they are (and they are, no argument here), but if you buy the right Billingham for you, it will literally outlast you! Unless you drag it behind a car for the heck of it, or something like that.
I have used just about everything over the years - Lowepro, Tenba, Tamrac, Delsey, Domke, and even some no-name brands. I was even happy with some of them... for a time. I actually wore out a few Lowepro bags over the years, so I must have liked them enough at the time. They all eventually either broke or proved to be less useful than I thought they would be... with the exception of Billingham, Domke and Pelican (hard cases). So I have culled my bag collection to a few Billingham and a couple of Domkes (might keep one Lowepro backpack, but probably won't), and the only other thing I put my gear in are Pelican cases, for when I need extreme protection.
Billingham bags are the most weatherproof soft camera bags that I have used, and they don't need an "all weather cover" to do it. A Billingham is an "all weather bag", simple as that!
(Disclaimer: I have never used any of the Lowepro waterproof backpacks). Surprisingly, Domke bags are also very good in this regards, just nowhere near as good as Billingham, but then Billingham are built in England (and we all know what the weather is like over there...
).
So yes, they are expensive. But they are also very, very good!
