This shows how the 30 looks with 1 body ( I easily fit 2 side by side like this ). I find its pretty easy to change lenses out of this bag. Only downside is its a bit bulky.

What wrong with the domke?

too floppy for lens changes, and that 4 lens divider..... I can only fit two due to lens hood. Rather have a top load type bag, the domke is fine to carrying gear to destination, but not to shoot from bag.

thanks for the image tommy, retro 30 the top contender at this point. Need that extra little space for the usual crayons and wet wipes.

YW. The retro 30 will fit a lot of stuff. Even the 2 front pockets expand. I use them for Lee Filters etc.

It will get thick when you use the front pockets

He needs a different insert, maybe the 720-230 3-compartment, or the new style inserts with movable partitions. I've had no trouble doing lens changes in mine for decades, including using the 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8 IS and 100-400. The lens dividers are removable so you can use the one that best suits your needs.

Thanks Jon.

Charlie we all work our own way. Jon has incredible experience working from Domke bags.

I am a bagaholic and use my F3x and f2 often.

I've been eyeing these hadley's, but have no idea what size to get. I would like a bag big enough to fit two 5d's and 24-70 + 135 both mounted, or 5D + 70-200F2.8 mounted.

You should look at the 307 or 307L. They are big to hold a lot but not too bulky.
There is a billingham thread with examples.

certainly a lot more compact than my older bags, but it holds gear very well. Shot with it at the park for a good hour, no issues. Photo shows 3 lenses and a body, 50L, 135L, 24-70VC. Tried two bodies with lenses mounted, also works well. Hopefully, this will be my last messenger bag. If I were to carry any more gear, I'de use my backpack.

Nice Charlie, the Retro 10 is a great bag. Perfect for what your taking with you.

I'm thinking of giving a flip side another try as a backpack, maybe the 15L or 20L. I really don't want to drop $300 to $500 on something from F-stop since I will be using it for casual hikes.

while you're at it, compare the conventional non sport flipsides as well. Those offer the sliplock system for additional pounches mounted to the belt, where the sport has a mesh pocket. The sport has a better tripod holder.

good call, the 400AW looks more ideal. I wish you could put the tripod on the side but it looks better than the sport versions.
