Well, I was desperate to test my Canon 100mm Macro lens and went into the lawn this evening and did not find a single insect!

I found this 1 inch weed and took him as my subject :) I can't wait to learn more, hopefully this weekend I get some time to play around -

Neat shot. I wish it was a little lighter, though.

There's beauty in everything if shown in a certain light. Nicely done.

You can use it to clean your ears. The lint trap on the dryer. Women with mascara. Maybe they're not as useless as you first thought! :)

I like the shot, man.

I wish I could follow your suggestions it was less than an inch in size :) I have a bigger one in my garden waiting for my attention ;)

Thanks :)

Wow, all of your comments are terrific. I never expected this would be well taken. I will play around a bit this weekend to learn a bit more and some back, hopefully, with some better pictures...

Thanks for the inspiration....

Sanjesh:

You may not realize it, but that is a very good image.

And you may find that closeups/macros of flowers and other botanicals are extremely interesting and people generally will hang them on their walls, but won't do the same with a bug portrait.

You may want to add a diffuser/reflector to your arsenal to aid in lighting.

http://www.photoflex.com …ucts/MultiDisc/index.html (external link)

It's a diffuser (diffuses harsh direct sunlight) and there are four reflective sides of different colours.
