First off, I know I am going to get attacked for buying my XTi from Best Buy, but it is because I work for them and get a decent price and get to walk home with it. It came to the same price at B&H at the time that I bought it.

Anyways, I got the 4 year service plan that includes 2 free cleanings a year. I was just wondering if anyone here has had any experiance with this. Mine is due for a cleaning (few dust spots in photos) and just took it in. Anyone know where they send it to be cleaned? How long did it take?

They sneak it into the back room and have the Geek Squad do it on lunch break.

BTW, I certainly wouldn't attack you. Your reason makes sense.

But I was in BB yesterday for some printer paper and took a look at the camera display. They had a reboxed 30D for $1495!!!

Yeah, if I wasn't an employee with a discount then I wouldn't of bought it from there. I just liked being able to walk out with it and start using it right away. I am a little nervous being without it and waiting a few weeks to get it back.

I would not let anyone but Canon or myself touch the sensor on my camera.

Yea, they give it to Josh from refrigerators, who takes it to his other part-time job at Tires Plus, and he blows the dust out with the air compressor. You get it back whenever he remembers to grab it off his oily/greasy workbench. ;)

Since you work there, wouldn't it be easier to just ask them where they send it? ;)

For all you know Best Buy might even have a B2B deal w/ Canon to ship them all the sensor cleaning jobs. I'm NOT saying that's what they actually do, but just saying it could be a possibility.

I work in a Distibution Center, not a store. I thought more about this after leaving the store and haven't taken the time to call them up and ask them for details yet. I am kinda worried of getting an answer like "ummm, I don't know what we do with those."

As for the b2b deal, that is what I hope they do, but I don't know either. I will give them a call tomorrow and try to find out. I might try to call a 1-800 number and get a few answers.

What got me worried was when I went to drop it off I had the camera and kit lens packed tight in bubble wrap in the original box. When I handed it to them they took it out and handed me and box and bubble wrap back and said "here, we don't need this" and took it behind a door. I guess I should of asked more questions then but I was in a little shock and in a hurry to get out of there and to where I work.

Hmm...that does sound a bit scary. LOL. I hope you remembered to take the battery out as well as any CF card you had in there as well.

Yeah, I took the grip off and gave it to them with no battery or CF card. Just camera and lens (caps included). The good news is that the paper I signed when I gave to them says it has no major sratches and minimal wear. With that I hope to get it back in the same condition.

Overall I trust Best Buy. I have bought several things from there with everthing from TVs to PCs, and P&S camers. I haven't ever had any troubles with their service plans in the past. I am just nervous and sure everything will be fine. I guess if the worst does happen then it would be a good time to start saving for a 40D... :)

Well I finally got my camera back today. I took a few test shots but had to leave for work. The camera seems to be clean but ti did take a little long to get it back. It is worth having it done for free (with the service plan) if you don't need your camera back in a hurry.

I purchased my 20D from them (it was one year no interest and on sale at the time)...

Well two months ago the shutter died and they replaced it took two weeks but at least that was covered.
