I have been able to make different types of watermarks, but NOT the type I want. I want to be able to make the kind that look like liquid. Can some one point me in the right direction or thread so I can figure that out? I have searched and searched and cant find that shows me how to do those...

thanks...

Look here (external link) for 'DIgital Watermark Branding. It's in the CS2 section.

I have photoshop 7 and dislike it enough that I reall dont want to invest all that money into CS2 or 3...

So I am looking for a way to do it with PS7...I am sure there is, but I cant figure it out....LOL

I will check the above link...

If ANYONE knows how to do it in PS7 or a plug in for PS7 could you direct me in the right direction?

What do you mean by "looking like Liquid". Do you mean See through/transparent/translucent???

If thats what you want then create the text you want in a new layer with the color you want and use the fill slider in the layer pallet.

When you say "liquid" I assume you mean something like this:

IMAGE: http://camdenphoto.smugmug.com/photos/189388983-L.jpg

It's very easy to do in Photoshop:

1. Open your image

2. Select a mid-tone grey in your colour palette

3. Select the Type Text tool click in your image and type your text

4. Once typed you can move or resize the text to suit

5. Double click the text layer in the Layers palette and tick the Bevel and Emboss check box.

6. Change the blending mode in the Layers palette to Hard Light

Voila!

(Remember, you will have to flatten the image if saving as a jpg etc)

OK, here is my foolproof guide. This method should work in PS versions 6 to CS3:

1. Open your image

2. Select a mid-tone grey in your colour palette:

3. Select the Type Text tool click in your image and type your text

4. Once typed you can move or resize the text to suit

5. Double click the text layer in the Layers palette and tick the Bevel and Emboss check box.

6. Change the blending mode in the Layers palette to Hard Light

I hope this helps!

OK, here are a couple of more questions for people who know PS7

1)how do I make this into an "action", something where it does it in one command, is that possible?

2) can I do this in a batch form?

You can certainly do this in an action. It takes some preplanning and you need to use the fit image command (I don't have ps7 anymore, I am assuming it is there).

The one thing that I have found is that it is better to build your text in Illustrator and then in the action have it build this as a work path.

The concept of this is all explained in the Russell Brown Branding video. Even though it may be for CS or CS2, alot of the transactions could be available in PS7. You would have to review them step by step to ensure that they are. The steps in the action that I use are not ground breaking and I do believe that most of them have been around for quite some time.

I have several actions that do my watermarking for me. It took some time to get them right but it certainly paid off in the end. I actually ended up with actions that can put multiple watermarks in depending on what the image was intended for. If for my clients my name goes in the bottom and a large but mostly opaque "proof" goes across the middle. In the end I ended up with actions calling actions. It is not hard, just time consuming to get them right.

There are also alot of ways to get the watermark in the image with the end result looking the same. Mine will looks similar to the samples suggested here but I have a whole different way of doing it.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Here's another way to make the sort of watermark/signature that you are looking for and this includes a downloadable action - http://www.outbackphoto.com/workflow/wf_54/essay.html (external link)

I haven't checked exactly which versions of PS this will work with but I am fairly certain that it should apply to all as it's using fairly standard procedures.

Digital Watermark branding will work in PS7. Only step I'm not sure about is the 'Fit Image', so you might have to batch landscape and portrait seperately then...

No you shouldn't need to. Fit Image will maintain the aspect ratio.
