Originally posted on the DPReview forums but it seems apt here given some of the tripe I have seen this last week.

"Over the last several days, I've been reading the forums and it is hard to put into words the incredible amount of immaturity and foolishness I've seen.

First, the 40D is not supposed to be on par with the D300. If you like the D300 better, can afford all new glass, and have the extra $500, please shut up and just get one.

But understand, they are cameras in two different classes. Again, two different classes.

There is no point in bashing Canon or threatening to leave Canon camp. Again, Canon was not intending to make a D300 class camera.

Second, for Canon users, why would you try to prove your brand is better? Who cares?

Don't you realize how foolish and insecure this makes you look?

Do you define yourself by what a publicly traded corporation produces? For several of you, it is quite apparent that you do.

The same goes for many Nikon users and their gloating over the D300. Who cares? Just buy your camera and use it. Enjoy it. Go take pictures.

Stop being children and shouting "my toy is better than yours." No one cares. It reeks of insecurity, and it is not becoming for any human being.

Why don't we talk about what we like about our cameras, or complain to Canon or Nikon or Pentax or Olympus or Fuji or Sigma about what we don't like so much about our cameras.

Let's not bash the other guy's camera anymore. It just makes us look like fools. No one can argue with posts that are filled with elated, proud new camera/gear owners, or posts that include complaints that we hope (and know) manufacturers read and give heed to.

But it is so utterly ridiculous to be critical and condescending toward those who use other brands, and toward those manufacturers themselves. Let's have a little class and grow up."

Guys this isnt a fanboyism forum its a photography forum so lets see less moaning and more pics eh?

If you take offence to teh above then thats up to you - I dont want to cause offence by posting this and if it gets me into trouble or my account banned then so be it but please lets move on eh?

Cheers,

Muzzy

Anyone who compares the D300 with the 40D is ____________ . Insert a negative word there and you get my feelings. Go out n' shoot!

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

well said. just enjoy yourself and shoot. if you read books by tom ang, the bbc photographer and look at his pics, a lot of the pics are taken with p & s cameras and they look amazing. better than anything i could take with my 10D. it's more about the skill and technique than the equipment...

Last I checked this particular forum was an "Equipment Talk" forum...
If you don't like the "fanboy" rants, then perhaps stick with the Sharing forum.

I agree, Mutz, although - for lack of NOINK fans - there is not much going on here in a sense of quarreling. Which is good.

Best regards,
Andy

Here, Here. The voice of reason at last.

Although, I have to say that if you create a post in an "equipment talk" forum and the subject is "Whats better - the abc-3 or the xyz-17D?" you just know your gonna get a lot of "fan mail".

Cheers

Plus, my daddy's car is faster than your daddy's car.

;)

PS: Walt, everyone knows the xyz-17D is hands down better. Perculation levels at the low hydrostatic pragmatic pentaprism are off the charts... please !!..

It's called insecurity. Lots of them over at dpreview.com. They like to pour over paper stats than taking photos. Very lame.
