There was a botanic garden near at the place where we stayed at Jeju Island (South Korea). So I decided to take some photos of the place and this was the best shot.

C&C welcome.

You know those trees are very expensive here in the states and unless they are trimmed well, like yours in the pic, they don't look worth the money asked for.

They are wonderful. I have one and it is really fun (and hard) to take care of.
They look awesome too.

And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.

A really nice specimin of the tree, but does the fact that it is dark at the level of the roots and almost blown out towards the top? Can this be something which would be changed with a half-ND filter?

That is a very unusual Chinese Elm... You don't generally see them with such a defined foliage canopy. It's a bit incongruous with the trunk movement, and root over rock style... but I am loving the photograph. Though I am not terribly surprised to see something like this coming from Korea. Many Asian countries are producing some very avantgarde work, strongly departing from Japanese traditional forms.

It's unusual when photographing bonsai to exclude the pot. Because the pot is an essential part of the composition. Unless you are going for a macro of course.

I am curious if you have a photo of the whole bonsai? I would truly enjoy to see it.

On a side note...

I'm a little overwhelmed with the shear size of this place. I am used to being a moderately sized fish in bonsai forums... this place is off the charts by comparison. I'm hoping to find the part of this place where complete noobs can post exceedingly stupid questions, and not be eaten alive.

Directions welcomed. ;)

Kindest regards,

Sabine
