They don't usually call unless they can't find anything wrong.

Thousands? Ouch! Yeah, I was pretty thankful I hadn't sold off my 35mm Canon Rebel Ti when I was having continuing XT issues. Maybe Canon's banking on people buying backup cameras while they wait? ;)

I don't know, the technician told me that he literally had thousands of cameras in the queue. WOW! Maybe that should be a wake call for Canon to open more Service Centers?

All Canon 1D MkIII's I'm sure. :D

I wrote Canon about that actually, and posted it. I am considering that upgrade fairly soon. A CSR acknowledges that Canon knows about the problem and is working on a fix.

Dude, I sent them printouts and samples, etc. Naw, it wasn't that they could find anything wrong, it s that they couldn't find the camera when I called since it was over 5 days and still no acknowledgment from Canon. They took another two days to find it and that's when the tech called to apologize and I figured I sneak a conversation in, to make sure they know exactly what I am talking about.:p;)

Oh, that makes sense, I guess I just couldn't wrap my head around the idea of Canon actually apologizing. They really must be overworked!

I got it back today and I'm furious. I needed to take out the 3v lithium battery to reset the camera to make it come on, after it did turn on, after a few minutes, it would lock up to where the power switch would not even turn it off. I finally kind of got ti going and was able to mount a lens, it wouldn't lock on to AF. Then it will lock up again! Called Canon, it is coming back again for the 3rd time!

Sorry to hear it. Damn, that REALLY sucks! Send some email to Canon Customer Service and complain. Not that they'll do anything to help but that sort of email sometimes gets back to the higher ups in Canon.

I had this happen to my HP laptop. The "enter/return" button when depressed never worked the way that it should be. So I returned it for repair but before I returned it, I marked the return button.

When it returned, it still didn't work and the mark was still there. I called the how come it wasn't repaired. According to them, they stated that they gave me a brand new keyboard. I'm like if that is so, did you guys also mark it like I did on the return key. They were like, uhhh...ok return it again to us. I'm like you got to be kidding me!

Just sent them the disappointed, yet civil email, asking them to help me assure that this is the 3rd and last visit to Irvine. Wish me and the Rebel XT luck!

Thanks, I'll give you guys the play-by-play as it develops. Thank goodness I have a second body, this would suck had this been my only camera. As it stands, I'm still waiting on my shipping label. Gosh, Canon Camera is jsut as bad as their copier branch. We had one tech that was a bit short on the neurons come and try to service our copier at work. Actually, that copier is still down, 3 weeks and still won't work. WOW!

I feel your pain 00silvergt! My XT will be returning for it's 3rd trip. I've been sending my camera to the NJ service center. I have dust on the sensor and it appears on the photos and it so large that it can be seen when looking thru the view finder. How can they NOT see it????? What really annoys me is that on the 1st return I was told it was going to cost around $200. I would have been extremely mad had I actually had to pay that and it still have spots. Good luck with your 3rd visit.

Any spots that you see in the viewfinder have nothing to do with your sensor. When the sensor is exposed, you can't see anything through the viewfinder.

Yes, if yo can see it in the viewfinder, it is either on the mirror or on the focusing screen. The sensor dust dirt will be in pictures. The hair on mine was bad enough that it appears in every picture in the same spot at f/8 or higher, it got really irritating so I sent it out. Initially it cost me $40, which was ok. Then when I got it back, albeit they did a sensor cleaning they didn't listen to me that the problem was behind the low pass filter. So I sent it again, this time as soem suggested with pictures, etc. So I shot a picture of the sensor with the hair. I also included a picture taken at f/22. Then I got to speak with the tech. Everything seemed like to was finally going to get fixed, until this morning when it arrived. And my nightmare started!

Okay, new update. I called Canon in the morning yesterday and yet received the shipping label to return the camera to them. I called the Irvine Center to find out what was going on. Apparently the shipping label arrives in email 24-26 hours after being generated. Mind you I called at 9am PST and the person I spoke with told me that the label was not sent out until 2 pm yesterday. So I will have to wait until 4pm PST before I can get the label to send out. Weak. Then when I asked them about whether they checked out the cameras for functionality prior to shipping, her response was a ecstatic, "Yes, sir!". But when I followed up with, then "What happened with mine?". She was speechless. Hmmm...
