Thanks for the comments all - much appreciated.
PhotoFranz - it gets less of a strain with practice- My eyes/brain automatically view them without thinking now as I do these fairly frequently.

Tim these are simply shot(s) taken with some sideways movement in between (about 1/30th of the subject distance). To complicate matters the individual shot(s) are also focus stacks to increase the DOF in them. You just hope the bug stays still whilst doing them.

I love these...especially the yellow flower and the rather ominous arachnid! I feel really lucky that I can view these so easily....my colleague can't 'get it' at all!

So, you took 3 to4 shots of differing dof, then moved slightly sideways, and took 3 to 4 more shots? That is one patient bug and one VERY talented photographer. I (and I know others do as well) VERY much appreciate your great willingness to give advice and tell your techniques. Thank you.

Tim - doesn't always work like that- I take the first shot then if the bug hasn't moved take a series for a focus stack then if it still hasn't moved I do a second series for a 3-D. Quite often the bug does move and I just end up with a single shot .
