8 and 16gb CF cards--trouble?

Any functional problems with using the large capacity CF memory cards? Sandisk makes 8gb and 16gb cards--I have heard some prefer to stay away from the larger cards. (I realize that losing or damaging a large card is a bigger problem than losing or damaging a small card--that's not my question).

Depends on the camera. Up through at least the 5D they can't format an in-camera card to over 8 GB.

I have 2 8GB Kingston cards that I use in my digital rebel. I've never had a problem with them.

Since I got my first digital camera over 5 years ago I have gone from 512 MB to 1 GB to 2 GB to 4 GB to 8 GB cards. The only images I have ever lost were on cheap 512 MB cards, but then I switched to Sandisk Extreme and have not lost an image since.

If you are shooting RAW in an outdoor sports event where you are likely to be taking hundreds of shots in wet or dusty conditions the 8 GB cards are a good investgment because you can often shoot all day without changing cards.

For other situations the smaller cards are just fine and the 4 GB cards give good performance.

i use 8gb cf cards as the first cards into both my 1d3 and my 5d...haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood!)

i would be a bit worried using anything over 8gb though....that whole all of your eggs in one basket thing. most who follow that line of thinking recommend a smaller card than 8gb, but i guess you just have to decide how large you want that basket. :p
