If you are going to be taking an unscheduled weeklong vacation this was certainly the time to do it- or maybe not. After spending so much time on dpreview, nikonians, and a few other sites I finally broke down and ordered a D3 and D300 to try out. I figured if Jamie could go bi with his D80 for a while I should be safe with adding these to my kit.

Between the bodies and some new glass this vacation has cost cost me more far more than hanging out here and being told to buy another piece of L glass.

This post is my first thing I've done on POTN this week- I'm now looking forward to reading all the comments up in the equipment section on how the new Nikons are cr@p :)

Glad to be back- looking forward to getting back into more 'meaty' topics :)

I haven't made a decision to abandon Canon- I just said I'm adding two new bodies and some glass to my kit and will decide what combination of gear makes the most sense for me. I just never thought I'd need (2) Domke F-1x bags to carry my gear :)

Let us know how they perform. A lot of wedding photogs have been eyeing those two.

I'm waiting for Canon to give Nikon a swift kick in the pants at PMA next spring when they announce the successor to the 5D. I'm picking up a 40D in about a month and the new camera next spring to replace my poor old 20D and 10D.

NIKONS SUCK! CANONS ROOL!
haha j/k

Nikon makes nice cameras, but I am just so used to a Canon. I don't know if I could go back and forth between the two. Canon seems to be better when shooting high ISO as well, but that is the only brand-specific advantage I know of, and it may not be true anymore and wow this is a run-on sentence.

LOL.

Rich, what site did you order the gear from? Did they guarantee a specific arrival date? I'm very curious to see shots from production models of the D3.

Has anyone seen any real samples of the new Nikons at high ISO's yet? I've only heard rumours so far.

If they're true, the whole Canon vs. Nikon thing becomes more about personal choice than best equipment. Admittedly Canon's lens line-up is pretty sweet, but most of us only buy primes and zooms in the 10-200 range, and from what I've seen, Nikon have some good performers too.

Not that I intend to stop having a go at Noinkers ... I just won't have a real reason for it anymore!! :-D
