Juvy Cardinal

I took this picture with a S 2IS on the back deck. The cardinal didn't spook at all and I was able to get within about 6 feet. I'm trying to improve my technique so if there are any comments, I'd like to learn from them. Thanks.

Nice shot! Good getting the focus on the subject; lighting and color are good. You may want to try to get the shots without distractions in the front (unless that's the only one you can get )

It's a male cardinal, but I don't think it is a juvie. It looks like an adult in molt. I could be wrong, but I don't think the juvies molt the first year after getting adult plumage.

As for the shot, I would have gotten on my belly like a worm and shot from his level.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, I only got about halfway down to worm level, guess I'll have to practice on those quick drops like the old football days.

Tim keep up the good effort. If you drop fast you'll never get a shot. Smooth and slow movements will get you the best shots.

It's even better if you're in position and wait for the birds to approach you.
