I have Photoshop CS, my computer crashed, i had to buy a new one which came with Windows Vista (yuk)

loaded it on and everything seemed ok.

tried to open it yesterday and i get the following:

Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked.
Use properties command in the windows explorer to
unlock the file.

i have no idea what it is on about or how to do what it suggests.
i have tried opening via the Photoshop icon, and also by trying to open a photo to edit

Please help:cry:

Try uninstalling photoshop, completely, you can do some searches to find out how, and reinstalling. Seems like a pain in the butt, shouldn't have to go through all this trouble to get it to work. If it still doesn't work. I would call adobe, sorry i don't know the number

I have completly un-installed and re-installed

as soon as i try to open program up the message

Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked.
Use properties command in the windows explorer to
unlock the file.

appears, and as soon asyou click OK (you cannot do anything else)
the program closes.

before anyone asks, yes it is a bona -fida legal registered (to me) product.
i upgraded from 5.5 when CS came out.

has anyone got an Adobe e-mail address i might sent the problem to?

I would suggest going to: http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/ (external link)
as I have found the site insiteful. Boy was that bad.

I personally have no idea what the issue is but I did a google search and there are plenty of other people having the same problem. Here is a link to the first page I found with instructions on how to fix. Hope that helps.

I think I would go with the uninstall and re install option myself. Wish I could be of more help.

Just a guess....make sure you are logged on as administrator. Check the directories where the exe files for photoshop reside and make sure they are not "locked". Hope it helps.

OK after aprox 5 hours of reading different forums this is what i did.
hold Ctrl + Alt when starting Photoshop
up popped a box about scratchdisk
changed it from "Startup" to "C"

again it came up cannot load shapes, contours etc..then it shut down as before.

got out the Installation disc and put it in the computer.
Re-Installed without Un-installing.

changed my name from Terry to Terence. added Company name (ficticious)

had to validate again as profile has changed.

FIXED:lol:

happy chappie:D

Moral of story..leave scratch disk on "C" when useing Vista

apparently in one of the Adobe Forums, it states CS does not work with Vista, and also Adobe do not support CS anymore (what a wonderful company they are).

well it does work....just leave everything as default.

hmmmmmmm, I was wondering if it might have been UAC, user account control issue. Some software support have mentioned to disable it if problems occur during install. But your good to go now it sounds.
