Harvestman

This image has answered some of the questions i had asked myself about Harvestman, what do they prey on and why the long legs.

When i viewed this image at full resolution i could see what looked like scales from the wings of a Moth.

I wanted to know because i have never seen one with a prey item ...

Great shot. I saw one of these today actually eating some sort of shield bug but i was unable to get a shot of it.

come to think of it. i haven't seen one eating anything either. are they like other spider and sucks out the prey?

fine detail, I read that they are scavengers and eat pretty much anything but no doubt they catch the odd live prey though like you i've never seen that.

I wont touch these as they give me the willy`s - so no i dident pull its leg off .

Talking about scavenging though - i saw a Zebra Jumper a while back catch a Fly and i was getting ready to take a shot when along came a Harvestman and stole it it away from it, only to have an Ant come along and bite its leg and then it ran off - you had to be there really to appreciate how funny it was ...
