and my 500th post. Gary, I'm catching up to you! ;-)a

As I mentioned in my Puffin post, the sea was relatively calm a couple of weeks ago in the Gulf of Maine, but it was still a chore to hold the camera steady and balance while looking through the viewfinder, and the bright sunshine didn't help the cause, but it was just GREAT to be out there!

I was very happy to add these and a couple others I did not get decent shots of to my life list. In order of quality ...

Thanks for the comments, guys. I never know whether this forum is primarily photography focused (pun intended) or bird-brained (yeah that was bad too). :D

Thanks for sharing, tough to get those fast flyers, haven't seen many pelagic birds here. Well done.

Nice shots Carl. If I may ask, was this a specific pelagic seabird boat trip? What port did you go out of? We vacation in Maine every Fall and almost always in Bar Harbor/Acadia. Matter of fact, we'll be heading up in three weeks.

Thanks Ed. We stayed in Lamoine. We took the Puffin/Whale Tour out of Bar Harbor on the Bay King III. The Puffins will probably have migrated by the time you go, but I believe they have a pelagic birds trip too. Here's the website: http://www.barharborwhales.com/ (external link) Have a great trip!

Excellent stuff man. I LOVE seabirds and you got some good ones. Wilson's Storm Petrels are usually heading in the opposite direction of wherever you are! Of course the Gannet is my favorite, good job despite the harsh sun.
