Skip. I stand corrected. I just went outside to my bright, sunlit back yard and did a little experiment and was surprised by what I learned from it.

I'm now going to start carrying my Sekonic meter with me whenever I go out shooting and using it whenever I can instead of leaving it at home. Thanks, Skip, for enlightening me. :)

I dunno - those t-shirts in the back yard are HOT !!

On a more realistic note, I will be getting a light meter very soon. The camera's spot meter is sometimes unwieldy.

I was tring to meter ina wood with lots of dappled areas this afternoon and tried resotring to spot but it was really didgy trying to get sense out of it as there was no one aea the siz e of the spot that was in consistant bright light

I'm definitely going to buy a meter, was thinking of this one - any advice anyone???

For natural light (constant light as opposed to flash), that meter would be just fine. However, if you ever had a flash lighting situation to meter it would be useless. Most photographers these days choose meters that can do both natural and flash measurements in both reflected and incident modes. Often, spotmeter capability (usually a 1° measurement angle) is a desired feature as well.
