I'm curious to take a closer look to see how it looks on the "inside"

That is, excluding the bundled Canon software which you don't seem to own as you don't own a 40D. It doesn't claim to support it yet, but hopefully will soon (It supported the Mark III before it was released, but Canon made some RAW files from that one available before the release).
