I am firmly convinced that my 70-200 2.8L IS is in need of focus calibration.
It appears to front focus slightly which at F2.8 means you are way out.
If anyone has had a lens calibrated by Canon Australia out of warranty how much did they charge you?.

Nobody has ever had to pay for calibration?

I just needed a rough estimate.

Any takers.

Thanks.

The guy in the US office I called said such services start at $99. That's the best I can do..sorry.

From what I understand, you send it in, and they'll fix it to where it works again, but that could mean replacing parts which adds to the cost. I can see why Ronald says services START at $99. Best thing is to send it in and hope for the best....or live with a poorly focusing lens.

absolutely. Parts will raise the cost dramatically. It also depends on time spent, effort put in, parts, etc. They'll nickel and dime you to death, I'm sure. But hey, that's just good business.

Thanks guys, but correct me if I am wrong, but is not calibration simply hooking the lens up to a machine and adjusting the focus via "firmware/software" changes.

i believe $94 is a minimum service charge. but the actual cost depends on the lens.
