Need some real world advice here regarding the Epson Stylus Pro 3800 and the Canon ipf 5000. I am upgrading my printer and have if narrowed down to these two printers. I am aware of the difference in cost of these two printers and the difference in the features. What I need is some user input and opinions from folks who actually use these printers ie. opinnions as to pros and cons, relative operaing costs, ease of use, etc. Thanks in advance.

I use the 3800. I find it very simple to use. The sheet feeder works flawlessly, which is a big deal to me cuz my last printer wouldn't feed correctly.
The switch on and ready to print is approximately 45 seconds.
I haven't had to replace an ink cartridge yet, but it should be very easy to do.
Print driver is easy to navigate. I usually use Lightroom for print control so I don't utilize the Epson driver.
The printer takes up significant floor space, but it is a sight to behold. :-)
Ink consumption: it is difficult to estimate, but I can tell you that I have almost consumed a box of 50 8.5x11 sheets of Epson paper, and I've taxed the ink about 10%. I've also printed on 4x6 Epson, and the printer handles the paper as efficiently as the 8.5 x11.
I haven't printed my 13x19 paper yet, but I don't expect any issues doing so.
Connection: I use USB 2.0, but I could use Ethernet if I had more than one computer printing photos.

I bought the printer in May or 2007.
I'm very happy with the 3800.
Hope that helps.

I have the ipf5000 and it produces stunning prints. Never had an issue with it and the ink usage is one of the best you will find. Downside is the printer is really huge and takes up considerable space. Keep in mind the ifp5000 was replaced with the ipf5100.
