I have this lens & it's just sitting in my camera case. Can any of you give me some suggestions of what I can use it for?? What does this lens really do best at - what situations: wedding groups - landscapes - ??

Everyone told me to get this thing, so I did - and now it's been sitting doing nothing. Cuz' I don't know what to do with it.

It can be used for all sorts of stuff but IMO, it's niche is low light situations and portraits.

Why did you get it incase you dont know what to do with it. I am happy to accept all the exra $$$ and spare change that you guys dont need :D

On a serious note, it opens wide to 1.8 and is tack sharp. On a 1.6X crop body, its effective FL= 80mm- making a decent potrait lens. As it opens wide to 1.8, you can also use it for low lights.

In the lens pics archive there is a thread on this lens. Check out the pics that people have taken with this lens. Will give you some ideas.

Cheers

Thanks guys!! I bought it over a year ago after looking at some photos on the web. Well, time went buy & I got busy with other stuff. Now I can't remember where those shots were on the net, & it's just sitting here - rotting....(hhmmm - did I spell that right?!)

It does a hell of a job holding down papers on my desk when a wind comes through the window.

Why buy a lens if you don't know what you will use it for?

That helps. I was going to sell this lens, but now I have some new inspirations for it. I currently have the 20d & I think now I'll upgrade to the 40d. I'm just not getting the focusing out of it like I need for group shots...very frustrating. It tells me that it's focused, and then when pulling up the images, it's not. ahhh.....

You could use it to throw at your neighbors dog if it was barking too much in the middle of the night. Its light enough that it wont kill the dog. Hahahaha. Im kidding.
My copy was not very sharp. I didnt get lucky like Aladyforty. Maybe it was the operator. :)

I shot an entire wedding with this lens, it's great but it fails hard at autofocusing
