I just received a wedding invitation for a wedding I'll be shooting in 1 week. The envelope said my name and spouse. There are also registry cards for Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. I know for a fact I'm showing up as a vendor and I'll be in "work mode" but now my husband is invited and since they added registry info do they want a gift from us?

so confused.

That is really weird. Give them a complementary 8 x 10 :)

I've gotten these before, I generally don't pay much attention to them, I'll send the couple an email and ask them if they really where expecting me to send back the invitation reply.

Send it back with your name on it. Show up and shoot. Unless husband is an assistant, he stays at home watching football.

You don't buy a gift.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

nah, I would respond, but no need for a gift I'd say. I have found the higher end the wedding the more likely it is you get an actual invite.

no rsvp huh? wow, maybe they do want a gift from you. throw in a coupon for an 8x12. (Because 8x10 sucks and is not 'digital friendly') let's start a revolution to end 8x10 as a format!!

11x14 isn't 'digital friendly' either. Nor 5x7.

I say ignore the invite. Pretend you didn't even get it. The USPS lost it. Whatever. It's already understood you're going. Don't take a gift and don't take a husband. It's business for you.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

I never understood why 8x10 was a standard size, but you can't find 8x12 frames in regular stores...at least not from what I've seen.

We always reply to them, but never bring a gift, unless we know the couple personally. The reason for responding is so we can get a spot at one of the tables. We find that sitting with the guests is a great way to build relationships and stay close to the action during the reception.

Maybe that's just a way of saying (we have a seat and meal reserved for you). Leave spouse at home and don't worry about a gift. That was probably just part of their invitation package and the invites may have been sent by someone else other than the bride. No one should ask a paid vendor for a gift.
