The Johnny Headband Band, out of Bismark, ND. Been there! Small town compared to "the City". In the middle of nowhere, asking the age old question, "So, guys... How do we meet girls?"

Nice looking kid, right? That lasted for about the time it took for the shutter to close! I think they each burned up about 8,000 calories, and absolutly no Ritalin in the 1 hour show. LOL!

The Band. They put on a GREAT show!

His brother, who Johnny pointed out, "...is not gay!" The drummer is in his own little world. Maybe listening to Verdi?

I shot about 10 to get this one.

Not bad for shirtless rockers... It would have been a lot tougher if they were wearing "White" shirts... You might have had trouble retaining the highlights... Very nice set...

What a hoot ... a bunch of dyslexic guitar players with satin bathrobes! Good captures despite the visuals!

"White" shirts... You might have had trouble retaining the highlighs...

I'd originally set-up for a flat white, (Need an exposure crutch?), & the shirts went out of the picture pretty fast! In PP on the last few, I kept a few hotspots in the faces. They seemed to shout sweaty performance?

Thanks for the comments, guys! It was fun shooting them, & I almost whacked someone with the shade on the 70-200. I need to get used to moving around without being a hazard. ;)

Slightly off track:
I'm carrying over the "Light Meter" issue from the other section of the forum... Just a quick few questions: Do you think it's useful in any way at a show?

If you had to, how would you use a light meter in the performing band scenario? Do you see any advantages to bringing one along?

Edit: Either way, I'm getting one for the "white dress" at weddings...

"Light Meter" issue

I used to carry one & some guys still swear by them.
For me personally, I see no advantage to carrying more gear than I need when I'm working. I (1) shoot only RAW, & (2) meter off my hand when I can and/or use the image + histogram in the LCD.
Before the 1st shot, I was able to zoom in on his shirt & check my guesstimated exposure. There's almost always something in the shot that will work. RAW picks up the slack if/when I screw up. ;)

How I compute the exposure: Need an exposure crutch?

Why I do it that way:

Why make this stuff difficult?

Good point...

I also shoot RAW...Dwight suggested "bracketing" too... So the last 20+ shows I shot in RAW, and "bracketed" in sets of three shots, a full stop apart... The results are easier to manage in PP...

I guess the light meter will help with my wedding gigs (I'm just getting into them).

Your vote of experience always helps...Thanks for the feedback Frank... By the way, what lenses did you use for this gig? The pics are real sharp...

...what lenses did you use for this gig?

The 70-200 f/4. For anyone else interested, most of the shots were at f/4, ISO 1600, 1/400 sec.
The 2-shots were 1/200, f/5.6, except for the last one.
